Julie, Julia, Jitters and Jewels...

This afternoon it was raining outside, so Wade, Ari & I sat down and munched on camembert, tasty chedder & crackers, and watched "Julie & Julia". It's a true story about a lady named Julie Powell, who sets herself the goal of cooking all the meals from Julia Child's cookbook "Mastering the Art of French Cooking", and blogging her journey. (It's kind of ironic that I'm now blogging about her!). It wasn't the best movie I've seen, but I certainly found it inspirational and easy to watch. The french imagery is beautiful, and I could certainly relate to Julie at times. Although she was able to blog quietly without a 16 month old at her feet!

I'm not sure what it is about France at the moment, but it keeps popping up! At the moment I'm reading "Identical Strangers: A Memoir of Twins Seperated and Reunited" (which is an interesting read by the way!) and one of the twins lives in France. The other night when I went to an Indian restaurant, I couldn't take my eyes off the cute French restaurant next door. While in a clothes store earlier today, all I could see were navy blue and white striped clothes screaming FRANCE! One of them even had a little Eiffel Tower charm on it! Is it too much to add that my Kooky Tea Party stores also feature a few French themed jewels....?

Anyway, maybe I am just getting carried away. Maybe it's just the fact that I've subconsciously been more perceptive to it...

If you notice that I'm babbling nervously in this blog post it's because I
am nervous tonight. There's been a tsunami warning issued to Australia following an 8.8 earthquake in Chile at 5:34EDT today. The Bureau says that it's a "marine warning" at this stage, and it probably won't hit until tomorrow morning, but it completely freaks me out none the less. The force and unpredictability of mother nature is completely mind blowing...

But...what do I do in this situation...while Wade & Ari chill out on the couch with very little worry at all...I sit anxiously on Twitter to see what other people are saying and feeling. Oh, and I decide to write a long-winded blog post...which I will end now.

After a few photos of my newest jewels =)

Stay safe. Lots of Love.

Valentine's Day 2010 & Beyond...

It was nice that Valentine's Day fell on a Sunday this year. I was lucky enough to get a sleep in, while Wade got up to Ariella. Then I woke to him making pancakes with mini M&M's! They might sound a bit full-on first thing in the morning, but I assure you they were awesome!

We had a pretty cruisy day...looking around at wedding venues...and visiting my grandparents graves. My Grandfather died 5 years ago this Valentine's Day, a few years after my Grandmother. I like to think that my Grandmother wanted him with her that day. Oh, and we may have found a wedding venue...but we're not 100% sure yet.

I also made some mini cupcakes to celebrate the occasion. They were chocolate (out of a box!) with chocolate icing, red icing writing & pink 100s & 1000s. They turned out to be rather romantic & pretty cute! =) and YES - this time they are actually MY cupcakes in the photo! hehe.

Wow it's Thursday night already. Tomorrow I will be finalising any of this week's outstanding Kooky Tea Party orders, and then organising myself to get stuck into some painting! I can't wait to get brush to canvas again. Can't u tell? I'm going a bit crazy!! That's what happens when I don't paint for a length of time...I get this need to paint. I HAVE to paint!

But now...I need to sleep...I've got lots to organise tomorrow. Especially if I'm ever going to get this market stall up and running! That's just another little venture I have going at the moment.

Goodnight!

Friday Five.

This morning I've listed 5 NEW items in my stores. Here they are:

Silver Knitting Earrings

Silver Microphone Earrings

Silver Scissor Earrings

Little Silver Anchor Earrings

Little Gold Whale Earrings

How cute are the little Knitting Earrings!? I had to look closely when I saw the charms - and then I was like "AWWW! It's a ball of yarn! So CUTE!" and I just had to make earrings out of them.

I've sold similar Scissor Earrings before as well, and they were really popular. I think these ones are extra cute because they have a little more detail to them. Plus - they match my Scissor Necklace really well! They're a really cool gift for hairdressers, scrapbookers, crafters and sewing friends.

In other exciting news - I ordered my wedding dress yesterday! AAhhhhh!

I'm not exactly a bridezilla sort of person - but I must admit I got just a little bit excited about it all. I'm ordering it online directly from China - instead of going through a shop - so fingers crossed it all works out! It's a bit of a risk I suppose...but we're trying to do it cheap...and from what I've seen, they look exactly the same as in the shop! I suppose the worst that can happen is that I hate it and refund it or re-sell it. I'll keep you all updated! =)

Have a nice weekend!

Yummy Fabric...

I've been busy getting my Kooky Tea Party market stall together...and I found this gorgeous Robert Kaufman cupcake material at the fabric store the other day (see left). I thought it would make an awesome table cloth. Then I saw the price - and it was $27.95/mtr! Eeek. Too expensive for a market table cloth. So I walked away... When I got home I still had this sweet fabric on my mind and I did a search for it on eBay and ended up finding the exact same for $5/mtr!!! Someone was destashing their collection! Woo hoo! So I bought the lot. How I love shopping online...

In addition to organising the market stall, I've been busy adding new jewels to my eBay and Etsy stores. One of my favourite newbies is the "Gold Telephone Earrings" (see right).

I'm also dying to get some painting time in! With jewellery orders, play dates with Ariella, and housework - my painting time has been pushed to between midnight and 5am - which at the moment is precious sleeping time!

Something's gotta give, and (while I hate the fact), this week it's painting. Once these busy few days are over I'm going to sit down with my brushes and finish off the half finished canvas sitting beside me.

Today I'm off to see 6 day old baby Cloee. My friend (and ex-neighbour), Kirsty, gave birth to Cloee last Thursday. I bought a set of 4 small canvasses to create a painting for her nursery but haven't yet finished it! Luckily I've got some other pressies for her today. Better go wrap them...

Much Love,

Love is in the Air!

It's hard to find interesting things to do EVERY day with your 15 month old. However - I've found she loves to SCRIBBLE! If she gets a pen - she's armed - nothing is sacred. Not the lounge, not the walls, not the cat....no thing is safe! So....I put this scribbling to good use and Miss Ariella and I created a "Valentine's Day Banner" from coloured card and paper. We strung it up by punching holes in the hearts & threading white velvet ribbon through...

Now we wait for Daddy to come home to show him. It's a great way to spend a Friday afternoon in early February.

d.i.y mini cards

I ran out of my Moo Mini cards last week, and jumped on their website straight away to order some more. However, when I came to the checkout, I realised it was going to cost me about $24 (Australian Dollars - and the dollar is good at the moment!). Equating to about 24 cents per card. I want to use them at my market stall to hand out to potential customers as well as put them in the bag with each purchase...so i'm thinking 24 cents is a lot to give away each time...
So I came up with an alternative. I grabbed some old business cards of mine (but you can use any old cardboard), ordered some cheaper "address labels" from Vistaprint, and stuck them onto the card and then cut them out into Mini Cards! The address labels cost $12.99 for 140, but luckily I had an online voucher for 140 for FREE - just pay postage. So 140 labels actually only cost me $4.95 ($AU) postage. Btw - if you sign up to Vistaprint they constantly send you annoying emails with discounts and vouchers - but they do come in handy when you need them!

I could fit 2 stickers on 1 business card and then I painstakingly cut around each label. They came out awesomely though! They look completely professional, and they only cost about 4 cents per card.
