"Dia de los Muertos Princesa"

I've got the OK from the client, so here's a photo of the finished painting - "Day of the Dead Princess" or "Dia de los Muertos Princesa"...

This was a big commissioned painting (50cm x 70cm x 1.5cm) with lots of little details! A blue haired, blue eyed princess, surrounded by sugar skulls, dripping hearts, a swallow bird and skully butterflies!

Prints are available from Zazzle.

If you've got ideas for a painting, commission requests can be sent to: artbyjaz@yahoo.com.au

Today I'll be working on 2 other pieces that I've started...I usually flick from one to the other between layers drying. Although with acrylic paints it usually doesn't take long for them to dry - that's the beauty of them. As well as the usual Mummy stuff....that takes up most of the day. :)

"Drink Me"

This is the fourth painting in my "Mini Alice" series - "Drink Me". This one features Alice after she's fallen down the rabbit hole and stumbled across a little glass table. Here she finds a bottle labeled "Drink Me"....

It was all very well to say `Drink me,' but the wise little Alice was not going to do
that in a hurry. `No, I'll look first,' she said, `and see whether it's marked "poison" or not'; for she had read several nice little histories about children who had got burnt, and eaten up by wild beasts and other unpleasant things...

However, this bottle was not marked `poison,' so Alice ventured to taste it, and finding it very nice, (it had, in fact, a sort of mixed flavour of cherry-tart, custard, pine-apple, roast turkey, toffee, and hot buttered toast,) she very soon finished it off. - Lewis Caroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."

The original is currently in my Etsy store.

Print are available from Zazzle. (You can get them in any size you like - just click on the "Customize it" button followed by the "Print Options" tab.)

I've also finished that big "Day of the Dead" themed commission, I'm just waiting on approval from the client, and then I'll post pics. :)

Today I'll be working on another painting...the one I was talking about yesterday with the dark black hair. You can follow my progress throughout the day on Twitter.

Back from Warwick

Well I'm back from what seemed like a long drive from Warwick. We stayed overnight at my Grandparents place to celebrate my Grandad's birthday and their 64th wedding anniversary. Yes - 64 years married! Isn't that incredible?

The drive is really only about 2 and a half hours, but for some reason this time it felt longer.

Tonight we've got some friends dropping by, and then after I'll be catching up on some painting.

I've been working on a piece featuring a dark (almost black) haired girl in front of a purple background with a bow in her hair. You can follow my progress on Twitter.

A new PM!

What a momentus day for Australia! Welcome our 1st female Prime Minister - Julia Gillard. She kind of looks like Miranda from Sex & The City in this pic don't you think?

I got these oversized postcards delivered today from the printer and they're pretty cool. They're of my Alice in Wonderland inspired Triptych and you can get a set of 4 on Etsy for $9.99.

This afternoon I'll be finishing up that big 'day of the dead' inspired commission, and taking a trip to the library to look for some inspiration...

Spare ticket to Melbourne anyone?

I had trouble getting bub to sleep last night. So we both ended up sleeping in this morning! Which would be great - except I woke up with a killer headache. So now I'm writing this and waiting for the Panadol to kick in before I continue to work on that big commission...

It's nearly finished. Here's a photo I took in the backyard yesterday afternoon (it was a bit overcast!):

It's getting there...I'll be working on it today and I'll hopefully have it finished by tonight. The client I am painting it for is SO lovely! She's been sending me gushing comments about it. She's so great to paint for.

I REALLY want to go to the Tim Burton Exhibition in Melbourne at the moment. It has over 700 pieces of his work - dating back from when he was a child. Unfortunately, every spare cent will be going towards our honeymoon in October, so I'm going to have to miss this one. :( Pity. It looks so interesting! Lucky Melbournites!

Lunching with friends...

I had a lovely lunch today at Hog's Breath with my little family and our friends Tab and Darren and their little boy Levi (4 months). Gotta love Hog's Breath's curly fries! Turns out Ari likes them too.

Tonight I'll be continuing to work on my latest "Day of the Dead" themed commission. I've been posting progress pics on Twitter if you would like updates :)

Hope everyone's having a nice weekend!

A commission with a "dia de los muertos" flavour!

Today I'm continuing to work on a "Day of the Dead" themed commissioned painting. I've lightly drawn up the initial concepts on to the canvas just to make sure the client and I are on the same track. I'm looking forward to laying some more paint down on this one...

"Naughty Cal"

This is my latest painting - "Naughty Cal". She's a beautiful big purple eyed girl with white hair and a squid earring! There's some really nice nautical themed details in this one. She's wearing a squid earring, a pirate ship hairpiece and a little sailor's hat!

The original is up on Etsy for $199.

Prints are available on Zazzle! You can customize the Zazzle prints to any size you like - just click on the grey "Customize It" button and then the "Print Options" tab. You can also add matting and a frame if you like!

SATC2

I have been ANTICIP.....ATING this movie since I heard they were creating it! Sex and the City 2. I finally got to see it last night when 3 of my girlfriends and I (how very SATC!) had some dinner and caught the late gold class session - complete with crazy cocktails, chocolate brownie sundaes, and peanut m&ms...

Every episode of SATC including the first movie has never failed to impress me. I feel like these girls are personal friends of mine. I've grown alongside these women. I never tire of watching the episodes...I've learnt from them...I've been inspired by them...I've laughed and cried with them...I'm a huge fan...can't you tell?

This movie, however...just lacked.

It's like they've tried SO hard. Too hard. They've stereotyped the girls SO obviously...Samantha's trying to say outrageous things, that in all honesty were just a bit of a yawn....they tried to do CRAZY unimaginable outfit changes every 2 seconds, they've tried to re-create 'WOW' moments like they did in the first movie, they tried to create touching moments...don't even get me started about how tacky it was when the girls were singing "I am Woman" kareoke style...

Plus...the movie went for nearly 3 hours and to be honest there's no real storyline...
It just felt like they needed to pump out another movie so they grasped at what they could, threw in a million designer clothes and shoes and hoped for the best....

Will I be buying the DVD? Yes, of course! It's a piece of SATC history. But...and I can't believe I'm saying this...I think they've made the right decision by leaving it there and not making any more. It's time. :(

New commission

I finished my last commission yesterday of a steady row of commissions from the past few weeks, and just when I thought I was back to working on some of my own paintings, I got another request this morning! I'm stoked of course. I love making other people's ideas come to life, and this person in particular has amazing ideas, so I'm really excited to get started on this one. It's another big one (20" x 27")! So off I go...
I'll post pics when it's finished.

Absence makes the art grow fonder...

Wow. I managed to spend an entire week without my computer!

Even more amazing - I managed to spend an entire week without my paints! or sketchbooks....

I know I said that I would be continuing to paint while I was away, but when we packed the car I realised there was absolutely NO room for them. So I took it as a challenge. I thought I'd see how I would go without them...and I must say I went better than I expected! I had a couple of withdrawal moments...where my eyes lovingly glazed over amongst the fresh visual diaries at the shops, and I managed to finish TWO 500 piece puzzles (ok, Wade helped a lot with one of them)...but I actually managed to stop myself from sketching and painting and it's left me feeling quite artistically refreshed. :)

We had a lovely week at Caloundra. The Sunshine Coast really is one of the most beautiful places in the World. We did some touristy things like visiting the Kenilworth Cheese Factory - yum! - shopping at Sunshine Plaza and long walks along the boardwalk. The image in the picture below is actually the exact cafe we had breakfast at - right by the surf. Unfortunately, we missed out on welcoming Jessica Watson home to the Coast by ONE day!!!

A few weeks ago, I talked about an "Alice in Wonderland" inspired triptych (set of 3) I was working on for someone. Well, the client has now received her original paintings and I wanted to share them with you on here. These three panels feature Alice (of course!), the Cheshire Cat, The White Rabbit and The Mad Hatter. It was so much fun to paint. I absolutely love the story and I'm looking forward to more Alice pieces!
Of course, the original has sold, however the paper prints are available at the moment from Zazzle, and I've also ordered a few prints, and mini prints from my own professional printer which I'll be offering on Etsy and MadeIt in the next week or two. Keep an eye out! :)

Anyway, it's now Saturday night. I'm back home and back into the swing of it. Already checked through emails, twitter, facebook replies etc...and after dinner (if I can hold out that long) I'll be ripping my paints out...!! I don't hold much hope for an early night :)
