5 Things I'm Loving Right Now

A belated 'Happy Valentine's Day' to you for yesterday (or today for my American friends!). Hubby came home with a long stemmed rose, chocolate (for Miss 4 and I) and a really beautiful card. So spoilt.

So in the theme of love, here are 5 things that I'm loving right now.

#1 - Watching our garden grow. A couple of weekends ago we planted some flower seeds in a patch of dirt in our backyard. The back 2 rows are giant sunflowers, the middle row is pansies (my fave), and the rest are sprinklings of "cottage garden mix" - a surprise! Who knows what will pop up?

Week 2 - starting to see sprouting!

#2 - Baking. I'm no Nigella Lawson, but occassionally I have a go at baking with Miss 4. I remember my Mum making jam drops when I was little, and so we gave it a try with this recipe I googled. They turned out pretty good for a 1st go!

#3 - A blind date with a book. For Valentine's Day, my local library are lending out books in a stapled brown paper bag. The books are selected by the library staff, and you can't open it until you've taken it home. They described it as "a blind date that won't complain if you don't take it out again". haha.

I got a book called "Paving the New Road". Seems interesting...

#4 - The colour yellow. I've never been one to wear yellow. Ever. It doesn't suit my skin tone, and always washes me out. However lately I've been drawn to it everywhere, and I even bought a bright yellow dress which I love wearing! I think it's pregnancy delusion. Is that the sun? A giant lemon? No wait...it's me!

Bump buddies! Me @ 34 weeks, my friend @ 39 weeks.
The nursing pillow I bought in "Clementine" yellow.

#5 - New art supplies. Yesterday I stocked up on a few new art supplies at Riot. Up until Sunday (17th Feb) they are giving you $30 of free paintbrushes (any style!) when you buy $30 worth of paint. Easy!!

Time to go try them out...

Buzzing Blossom

Hello!

Well today it's been Miss 4 and I at home, spending time inside mostly because it's been sprinkling rain outside. Great weather to paint. Miss 4 has been working on Valentine's Day artwork.

Work in progress by Miss 4

Thank you to Mer Mag for the idea! We didn't have a stamp pad handy, so we used acrylic paint and the end of a paintbrush instead.

Meanwhile, I managed to finish off a new original painting. For those who follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you may have seen some 'in progress' pics of this. I named her "Buzzing Blossom".

I had fun painting the little bees in this one. The colour palette is mainly blues and browns, and it has sort of a 'vintage' feel about it.

You can find the original painting for sale HERE. *Update* The original has now sold, but there are still prints available HERE.

Now I'm thinking about what I should make for dinner. The monotony of making dinner each night really gets tiring after a while. Some days I'm in to it, other days I wish for a personal chef. Haha. One day!

Storms, sneak peeks & sale prints...

Well the weather last weekend did indeed get quite wild! It's probably the strongest wind (and on and off rain) I've ever slept through. We had Miss 4 in our bed with a temperature, the winds ROARING outside, the sound of big gumtree branches cracking, oh, and being 33 weeks pregnant I was getting up to go to the bathroom every 3 hrs. So really, not much sleep was had at all.

It may sound like I'm complaining, but I'm really grateful we weren't in the thick of it like some Queenslanders who were flooded in, with severe damage to their homes, and even lives lost. The most damage that was done to our place was our side fence fell down.

A photo of our fence taken from our neighbours side.

This past week I've been busy with print orders and working on a piece for the upcoming Annual Logan Tattoo and Art Exhibition (16th March 2013, Acacia Ridge Hotel, Acacia Ridge, Brisbane, QLD, Australia). I've finished one painting so far, and plan on doing a few more to debut at the exhibition. Here's a sneak peek of the one I've been working on:

I realised the other day that I still have a pile of prints that are signed and dated '2012' - they are perfect prints on glossy archival paper, all packaged and ready to go, and I'm selling them out for only $8 each! (They are normally $12.99).

I simply need to clear up some space in this little studio under the stairs!

Back to painting I go...
