Sunny Coast here we come...

Well, it's Friday.

Tonight we're packing up the car and heading to the beautiful Sunshine Coast for a week. My stores will still run as normal, except of course I won't have all of my paintings and prints with me, so they'll ship later than normal. Everything that's paid for will ship as soon as I get back though. I'll put up a notice on all of my stores as well to let customers know.

I'll have limited internet access while I'm away, but I should be able to answer emails etc on my iphone, so feel free to send me one if you need to.

I'll also be taking my paints with me! :)

Sunny Coast here we come....

"Xenia Fairy"

I'm excited to share this new painting today. One of my lovely Etsy customers commissioned her. This is "Xenia Fairy". Lots of details in there...a pink winged fairy with big green eyes and brunette hair...surrounded by cupcakes, lollipops, flowers, butterflies and a cute black kitty cat.
It was quite a BIG piece - approx 70cm x 50cm x 1.5cm (or 20" x 27")!

Of course, the original is sold, but I will be offering prints of her in the near future. If you'd like a print sooner, you can order one here in my Zazzle store. The Zazzle prints are awesome! If you click on the "customize it" button you can change the size of the print, add matting, or a frame...or just leave it as a standard print - whatever you like.

Today I'm working on another commission, and Ari and I also have to go do a bit of shopping - we've got birthday presents to buy. :)

Little Art Prints!

These mini art prints (6" x 9") arrived today. They're glossy, and they're printed on white card, so they're kinda like over-sized postcards! You can just leave them as they are - maybe pin them to a pinboard or something, or you can put them in a shop bought frame and it's a really cheap way to add artwork to your walls.

At the moment I have "Blueberry" and "Blue Gingham & Peacock Feathers". They're $7.50 on Etsy.

You can win BOTH of these prints by becoming a fan of My Facebook Page. I'll pick the winner by random on Wednesday night 8pm AEST. Good Luck!

The REAL reason "Cecilia" is no longer for sale...

While most of my shops will say that the "Cecilia & The Ladybug" painting is SOLD. The real reason is that Ariella (my 19 month old) decided that she should be a "collaborative" piece. In other words - she decided to do this to her this morning with pen:

I had her out on the floor while I was scanning her in, when I got distracted...

Luckily, I scanned her in before this at least prints will still be available!

Pencil Art

I did something big this morning - I caught a train! Haha. Not by myself. It was actually with my sister, my Mum and of course, Ariella. The reason it's kind of a big deal is because I haven't caught a train in years! I kind of have a phobia about trains. It's not as bad as my bus phobia, but it's still there. Anyway, the train ride was actually really enjoyable and Ari loved it! Plus I had a nice time shopping in the City for an hour or so.

Anyway, today I really just wanted to share this awesome concept with coloured pencils. Wade showed me this ages ago, but I just read about it again in Evie the Elephant's blog and
I wanted to include it here too. Japanese company Felissimo have 500 pencils that you can collect at 25 a month over 20 months. How awesome do they look displayed on the wall in this display case!?

I would love one of these on the wall of my art studio. But alas, at AU$23 per set (that's $460 just for the pencils!), it's not in my budget at the moment. I'm thinking that I could make a less expensive one with cheaply bought pencils though?

What do you think?

It's Friday night. I'm going to be chilling out with an easy dinner (either home made or take away - it WILL be something simple!) and working on a new commission piece...

"Purple Leopard"

In between commissions, I managed to fit in another small painting (5" x 9"), which I finished up around midnight last night. She's called "Purple Leopard" and she's oh so cute! It was inspired by this page that I had ripped out of Frankie magazine:

So of course, I sketched it up, and played around with it, and came up with "Purple Leopard". She's for sale in my Etsy shop for $39.

Today I've got a few Kooky Tea Party orders to organize, as well as a BIG commissioned painting to lacquer and post off. (It's a fairy! I'll post pics of that one in the next couple of days...)

Facebook Me

With my Mum helping to watch Ari, I was able to paint pretty much all day on a BIG (20" x 24") commissioned painting. So this afternoon when my eyes were all blurry I took a break and made a facebook page for my art. (About time I know!). I've got a personal facebook page, but I think it's about time I made one for the art side of things, seeing as it's been my main focus lately. At the moment I have ZERO facebook fans. lol.

Tonight I'm going to be finishing off this piece, and then maybe even starting to sketch out another commission.

I know I haven't been posting many updates on new pieces lately - but I've been lucky enough to be busy with requested paintings!

I promise I'll do another original piece in the next week though. :)

Welcome Ariana Grace!

I have a new little cousin. Well - 2nd cousin. My cousin Tarn had a baby girl this morning - Ariana Grace. Very cute name!

Congrats Tarn and Mike!

This afternoon I'll be working on this big new commission. It's only one panel this time, compared to the triptych (3 panels) I just finished, but it's a big 20" x 28"!

Phew! Better keep putting brush to canvas...

"Crafty Vampire"

Tonight I also finished off this little "Crafty Vampire". It's Acrylic on a 9" x 5" Canvas Panel. The ORIGINAL is on Etsy for $39.

The little button bats were inspired by these cute brooches I found on Flickr:

"Cecilia & The Ladybug"

Good afternoon! I just know it's that time of day because I'm seriously craving a cup of tea and something sweet...

I found these great small wood plaques on the weekend, and they've inspired me to do some little portraits on them...Today I finished a piece I've called "Cecilia & the Ladybug". It's 8" x 8" x 0.5" (or 19.5cm x x 1.2cm). I painted her without the ladybug, and then I couldn't help but feel she wasn't finished. The idea of the ladybug just kept popping into my head and wouldn't leave. So..I went ahead and added a tiny little ladybug to her and I think it works just right. I've always truly believed that ladybugs bring good luck...and I think Cecilia thinks so too :)

She's currently for sale for $59 on Etsy.

I'm off to have a cup of tea and some hazelnut chocolate...

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the lovely Mummies out there! (for yesterday).

I had a really nice day. Breakfast made for me, then we spent the morning cruising the aisles of Art Shed (wow! I'm like a kid in a lolly shop in there!), followed by Chinese for lunch at "Jackpot Noodle" in West End. Ariella (or, should I say, Wade) bought me some gorgeous new fluffy pink slippers (I'm wearing them now!), some knitted style home socks, and "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll and Camille Rose Garcia! The card is a postcard by artandghosts - my man has SUCH good taste :)! For my Mum, I got her a new address book (her other one is about 20 years old and in dire need of an update!), a little notepad and pen for her handbag, and Bon Jovi's latest DVD. And not to forget my beautiful Gran - I got her a little address book too. Then there's my Mother-In-Law and Step-Mother-In-Law...shall I go on?...Let's just say we all got spoiled! :)

Then the afternoon was spent re-organizing my studio area. It's a pain-staking job that I always put off doing, but after a few hours of chopping and changing things I have an actual workable space now!

I suppose it was spurred on by buying a few new organizer type things from Art Shed. Once I have a new item for a room (for example, a new blender for the kitchen), I feel spurred on to tidy up and fix the whole room so that the new item looks right in the space. Does anyone else do that?

I finished the commissioned triptych I've been working on over the past week or two, so that's good to go. I won't post pics just yet because I think it's a gift for someone and I would hate for them to accidentally stumble upon it just yet! I promise to post pics later though. Today I'll be working on another commissioned piece - this time a fairy! I'm only at the sketching stage for this one, but it's already really fun.

Hope you all had a nice weekend!

They're here!!

Yesterday I received my prints from the printer and I'm really happy with the way they turned out. It was a bit of a test run, so I've only got two different pieces on offer as prints at the moment. They are "In the Darkness" and "Blueberry" (sorry about the glare on the photo! it's night time at the moment and I only had the coffee table as a photography studio...hehe). The "Blueberry" prints are 10" x 14" (or 25.45cm x 35.5cm) and the "In the Darkness" prints are 10" x 10" (or 25.5cm x 25.5cm) and both have a 0.8" (2cm) white border for framing.

I am going to eventually offer all of my originals as prints. If there's any particular piece you would like, just let me know and I'll make sure to put it on my next order.

These prints are currently available on MadeIt only. (For some reason Etsy is down tonight?). But you can also buy them directly from me just by sending an email to: if you like. :)

Ok well it's now 11pm here. Bub is asleep, and I think I'm just about to do the same.

How's everyone's Mother's Day shopping going? I am all organised this year. I know - miracles do happen! I wonder how organised my present buyers are this year though? haha... No really - I'll be happy with a sleep in and a relaxing weekend. Maybe even more painting...

**UPDATE** The "Blueberry" prints are now on Etsy too!

"Falling Down the Rabbit Hole"

The dreaded sore throat is coming my way....I can feel it. But not to worry, that hasn't stopped my fingers from painting!

This weekend I've done a lot of work on that lovely 'Alice' commissioned piece I was talking about. It's a big one - a 3 panel triptych - and it's nearly finished! :) It's been a lot of fun to work on though. If the buyer permits, I will later offer the pieces as prints.

This afternoon, in between waiting for coats of paint to dry on the triptych, I finished off the 3rd piece in the "Mini Alice" series. It's called "Falling Down the Rabbit Hole", and it features a surprised Alice tumbling down after the White Rabbit.

The book ("Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll) says something like this:

"First, she tried to look down and make out what she was coming to, but it was too dark to see anything; then she looked at the sides of the well, and noticed that they were filled with cupboards and book-shelves; here and there she saw maps and pictures hung upon pegs."

It is painted in high quality acrylics on canvas which is tightly wrapped around a timber frame. The staples are at the back of the frame, so the picture can be hung on the wall without the need for a frame. It's signed by me and finished in a clear lacquer to enhance the colors and to protect the work for many years to come!

You can purchase the original on Etsy, MadeIt, or directly from me through my website.
