2 Paintings Up for Auction!

Still painting away on the Scorpio painting. I kind of let myself off the (painting) hook this morning and went out for coffee and a bit of shopping with a friend. Actually, I had an iced chocolate with a smidge of whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles, but anyhow...

This afternoon I'm going to be continuing to paint. Just so you know, I've also put "Purple Leopard" and "Crafty Vampire" up for auction starting at just 1 cent - so everyone is in with a chance!

"Natalie" Painting

Yesterday I finished a commissioned piece I've been working on. It's features a big hazel eyed, curly blonde haired girl called Natalie. She's surrounded by balloons, cupcakes, lollipops, stars, blueberries, flowers and a big blue Ulysses butterfly! Loads of details in this one.

Because it was a commissioned painting, obviously the original will go to the person who asked for it, but there will be prints available from Zazzle. You can choose whatever size or paper type you want and you can even choose to have it framed if you like!

While I was waiting for the clients approval last night, I started a new painting that I've had in my head for a little while. It's based on the Scorpio zodiac. Yes, it has a scorpion in it! I also made home-style pizzas! They were so yum.

Commission progress...

Good news! We've got a new computer! Yay!'s not brand new, but it's new for us and it's working so I'm stoked. Thanks Wade (and Wade's company!).

Yesterday I got quite a bit done on the commissioned piece I'm working on. As you can see in the photo, I've started to add in some colour to her dress, the balloons, lollipops and that pretty Ulysses butterfly! I love those. I can't wait to honeymoon in North QLD where these butterflies are everywhere!

Today I've got a friend coming over for some morning tea :) and then I'll be busy painting the day away!

Full Steam Ahead

We had a nice relaxing weekend. Yesterday we went to a Sushi Buffet for lunch ($15 all you can eat) with some friends which was yummy, and Ariella was quite well behaved - which is surprising because she's starting to really push the boundaries when we go out.

Anyway, being in West End yesterday I was also able to stock up on some more art supplies, which is just as well because I've got a really busy painting week ahead!

Luckily I have my Mum helping to watch Ari because this week it's full steam ahead in terms of painting - I've got 2 commissions underway at the moment and I've just had a request for a set of 4 commissions! How cool is that!? I'd also really like to be able to offer some new originals for sale also...I'm not sure where I'm going to fit those in...maybe somewhere between 2:45-3am. lol.

Of course - our computer decided to pack it in over the weekend. It just stopped. Dead. Wade said it might be our video card? Anyway - I think we have to get a new one. I'm currently writing this from our trusty laptop (thank god for that!).

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend! I'm looking forward to a productive week. :)

Wedding Planning Etc...

In the past 2 days I've got quite a few things checked off the never ending Wedding List...

1) Flowers - I'm doing them myself (with the help of my Mum and maybe my Bridesmaids) the day before the Wedding. I'm really not too fussed about how they go - in a way the more rustic looking the better! I love the idea of hot pink with black feather details though! I found an amazing rose farm that I used to pass every day on the school bus but I only just remembered yesterday! It's perfect. When I stepped out of the car the aroma of sweet smelling roses swept over me...and they have lots of beautiful colours to choose from!

2) Invitations - I've ordered some gorgeous 'letterpress' invitations from the U.S.A. (on Etsy!) and I can't wait for them to arrive!

This afternoon I'm kind of freaking out because I might actually have to catch a train, by myself, into the City to organise our birth certificates. Wade will meet me in there, but for those of you who know me, you will know that I have a fear of catching the train on my own. Or a bus for that matter. I think buses are worse actually. It's totally irrational, but it is what it is.

Painting wise - I've got 2 commissioned pieces in the works, which I will work on tonight when I get home.

A 4am Start.

Just got back from the markets...

It started out pretty slow, and then it picked up towards the end. We came out quite ok, I met lots of lovely people and handed out quite a lot of Kooky Tea Party cards.

Mum and Dad minded Ariella for us and I missed her so much! I was only away from her for a few hours! I don't know how I'm going to handle it when she goes to daycare.

This afternoon I'm looking forward to getting some rest (if possible), something to eat & drink, and hopefully get some work done on some commissioned paintings I've got happening at the moment.

My "Holding the Key" painting is starting at 1c! It's anyone's at the moment, so get bidding.

I hope you're all having a nice weekend! :)

"Holding the Key"

So last night I finished a new painting called "Holding the Key". I like this one. It's kind of got a happy, hopeful feel to it. I've put it up on eBay starting at only 1 cent! So everyone is in with a chance. :)

Today I'm going to be starting a new painting...probably with a scorpion in it. I don't know why, but last night I couldn't get this picture of a scorpion out of my mind. It's so strange. So maybe if I get it down onto the canvas it will go away.

This afternoon I have a meeting with the restaurant that is going to be our wedding reception venue. We're going to talk menus, decorations etc...should be fun! I think maybe then I'll start to feel a little more organised with the wedding planning...

While my baby is sleeping...

Bub has finally settled down for a nap. It's way too late in the afternoon, but at least I finally get some peace and quiet. The problem with these late naps is that she wants to stay awake late at night then...

Anyway, today I've just been sketching out a new commissioned piece that I'm doing for a lady who has a 5 year old daughter, for whom the painting is going to be based around. It's a really fun piece to do - HEAPS of details - and it's nearly ready to photo and send to her for approval before I start laying paint down.

I'm also in the middle of another smaller piece which I'll be finished in the next day or so...

It's quite cold today in Brisbane - I hope you're all staying warm!

Sunday Markets

So this Sunday I'll be packing up all of my Kooky Jewels and taking them to Chandler Markets! I haven't done the markets for a couple of months, so I though I'd take the chance this weekend seeing as I finally have a spare Sunday. If you're in the area come along and say HI!

Sunday Fun

I love Sundays. This morning we went down to the local markets and had a walk around. I found a book I've been meaning to read - "The Friday Night Knitting Club" (which I've been assured is not as boring as it sounds!), as well as 2 toy making books (yes - u read the tags right - they were "FREE!"). The toy making books are all in Japanese, but I'm hoping I'll be able to follow the photo instructions, because the little stuffed toys are seriously cute!

Now I just need to find the supplies (and the time!) to actually give the toy making thing a try. I really love the idea of making toys by hand.

I haven't had the chance to blog about this painting yet, but on Friday night I listed a new piece on eBay. It's called "Spiderwebs By Candlelight" and it's up for auction.

Yesterday afternoon I stocked up on art supplies, so I've got heaps of fresh canvasses just waiting to be painted on! Love that.

Busy Bee...

Ok so I haven't done much work on that 5th "Mini Alice" painting just yet. It's started though. I have however, been working on a bigger 12" x 16" piece which has a lot of darker tones. I'll continue to work on that today - you can follow my progress here on Twitter...
I also have a new exciting commission to start, but I need the right size canvas, so I'll be off to the art supplies shop tomorrow to stock up. Hopefully we'll also be going to the "Ron Mueck" exhibition at GOMA! Looking forward to seeing that one...I've heard tons of good reviews on it.
Did I mention I'm also supposed to be planning a wedding that's less than 3 months away? I feel so behind in the wedding planning. I must get some of that organised today.

"Cat and Mouse"

Last night, while watching more of "Weeds" (I'm nearly finished Season 2!), I finished off this painting called "Cat and Mouse". It features a pretty girl with kitty ears and 2 little mouse friends collecting raspberries...
The original is currently up on

If the original is a bit too expensive for you, you can purchase prints on Zazzle from only $16.95! :)

Anyway, back to Weeds...for someone who is completely against drugs and quite frankly hasn't touched anything except over-the-counter medication in her life, I really like this show! I think it's the raw appeal of the characters.

Today I'll probably be working on the 5th painting in my "Mini Alice" series. Amongst other Mumsy/Housewife duties of course...

Thursday, July 1, 2010

Last night I finished "Violeta" - She's a dark haired beauty with a pretty peony rose on her shoulder, and a feather and velvet bow in her hair. She's surrounded by mystical "bony" dragonflies, which were inspired by an x-ray of a hand.

I'm really liking these deep purpley pink colours at the moment, and it's come through in this painting. The original is up on Etsy for $129. Prints are available from Zazzle. It feels like Friday today for some reason. It's only Thursday though, so that must mean I'm a day ahead! haha... I'll be working on a new painting today...

Stay warm everyone!
