Phew! Another busy weekend. Yesterday I turned 27! I got some lovely pressies - and got to spend the day with Hubby and Miss 2, and then dinner with my Mum, Dad and Sister, so it all worked out perfect. I got these beautiful pj pants that I've had my eye on for a while - they are a new brand that Sussan are stocking called "Night Owl" and they are super soft and luxurious! I just couldn't go past the black and white stripes, the ornate frames, the keys and the haunted houses! SO cute!

My new fave PJ pants!

I also got a few other beautiful pressies from my family :) So spoilt. We spent the day wandering around the Surrealism exhibit at GOMA. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed by it, I thought there would be a lot more Dali's and maybe a few modern surrealist painters, but it really just seemed to focus more on very abstract surrealism. I don't know, I consider myself a "surrealist" painter at times and I have always loved the concept - but I just didn't seem to get that excited about this exhibit. Hmm. A couple of things I did like were:

"Hallucination Partielle" by Salvaldor Dali

"Madame Recamier" - Sculpture by Rene Magritte

"Sculpture" by Ariella Higgins (at "Surrealism for Kids" - GOMA)

I've also recently listed a new mini painting to my shop called "The Witch's Black Cat"

"The Witch's Black Cat"
 - all of my mini original paintings are just $30 at the moment - the cheapest way to own one of my original paintings!

Today I've been busy with commissioned paintings, and I probably will be tomorrow as well, but if you're interested in what original paintings I have available at the moment, they can all be found HERE.
I hope everyone had a nice weekend! :)

Monthly Painters Challenge Entry - August 2011

Today I had the pleasure of meeting up with Tracey Fletcher King and Tracey Potter - two other artists who participate in the Monthly Painters Challenge. It was lovely to meet Tracey Fletcher King for the first time in person and see her lovely home and studio space. I also found out she is the Queen of TEA! Flavoured, spiced, balls that blossom into flowers - you name it - the girl has got it. Yum!

For those of you who haven't heard of the Monthly Painters Challenge before, it's where a group of artists are given a topic each month (which is kept top secret) and they each interpret the topic in their own way to create an artwork, which is revealed on the 15th of each month.

For the month of August, the topic was "SAFE". I tried to think of things that make me feel safe, and one that stands out to me is rain. Just a cloudy sky can begin to calm me down. I find rain really cleansing, and the sound of it when I'm all inside cuddled up makes me feel incredibly safe. So in a way my painting "Safe in the Rain" is a self portrait in a way...

"Safe in the Rain" - 20cm x 50cm x 1.5cm

I decided to put the original up for auction starting at just $30. You can view the auction HERE. There are also prints available on Etsy.

Tomorrow is Friday - the weekend is near! :)

"Sunflower Fairy"

Good morning!

Last night I finished a new painting called  "Sunflower Fairy". Amy (from Giggleberry Creations - who make beautiful bunting btw!) was tweeting how her and her daughter planted Sunflower seeds and from there the idea grew (pun intended). So here she is:

"Sunflower Fairy" 30cm x 30cm x 1.5cm - ready to hang on stretched canvas

The original is $129 on eBay (or $120 for Facebook Fans). There's also prints available in 2 sizes:

Today I'm getting a wholesale order (lots of prints!) ready to be sent out. Oh, and Miss 2 is home so that also means stopping every 2 seconds to get a drink, make food, fix a doll that has sticky tape stuck in her hair, clean up a spill, or pretend to be an Octonaut. You know, things like that.

Red Fest 2011

Phew! What a weekend. We went to Red Fest on Saturday, and had a great time.

I entered 3 paintings into the art show there - and "Pisces Mermaid" sold while we were there! It was so coincidental actually - we were only in the art pavillion for about 15 mins and my painting sold while I was there! It was fabulous because I got to meet the buyer. Here's a photo of the lovely Brooklyn in front of her new painting!

That night we headed down to NSW to visit Wade's parents and the rest of the weekend was spent going to the beach, eating too much junk food, seeing Wade's dad's new place and exploring their property. We even found a skull! Thankfully it wasn't human, haha - it was a dog skull.

It's already lunch time here today (Monday) and this morning has been filled with running around - picking up paintings, dropping Miss 2 at Kindy, food shopping, doing laundry etc...but now I'm going to settle in and get some painting done.

On Friday I started a new piece with sunflowers in it...I've only started sketching it up at this point, so I hope to get some more done on that today too. It's 30cm x 30cm on a stretched canvas.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Ready for Red Fest

Today I've been getting 3 paintings lacquered and ready to hang at Red Fest this weekend. Red Fest (which used to be called The Strawberry Festival) has been a part of my life (pretty much for ever?) and so it's exciting to be able to hang my art in the little art competition that they're having. I'm taking "Pisces (Zodiac Mermaid)", "Frog Fairy" and "Princess Peppermint".

I also got some work done on a new angel painting...oh, and chased and played with and changed and fed Miss 2 of course. :)

"Skellyfish Mermaid"

This afternoon I finshed off a new mermaid painting. It's been a while since I did something a little 'darker' so for some reason or another - this little mermaid began to take shape - along with some skeleton fish, black coral and bubbles...

This one is called "My Skellyfish Friends"

The original is 35cm x 45cm x 1.5cm and it's up on eBay and Etsy for $129 (or only $120 for Facebook Fans).

There are also 2 sizes of prints available:

In other exciting news - I found DIET Vanilla Coke at Drink Depot! I'm not a huge soft drink fan, but I love Vanilla Coke, but don't want the calories - and let me tell you - DIET Vanilla Coke is as RARE as hen's teeth! It's so hard to find. So you can imagine my excitement when they were selling 24 for only $14.40! So excited.

It's now also Spring! My favourite season. Not too hot, not too cold - with the excitement of Summer and Christmas looming in the distance. Oh and a couple of special birthdays! :)

Oh, and Father's Day is this weekend! How are you celebrating?
