Leap Day - Feb 29th

A while ago I entered a competition on the Mums on the Go blog to my surprise I won a gorgeous Love Lines necklace by UberKate! I seriously LOVE UberKate's designs - you know how much I love silver. And to top it off - you can personalize them any way you like, so each one is different! As you can see in the photo - I got my daughter's name and her birthdate. I'm so excited it's here!

In other exciting news - we went to GOMA on the weekend and checked out the "Yayoi Kusama" and "We Miss You Magic Land" exhibits. Both were really fun.

"We Miss You Magic Land" by Pip and Pop

The magic land exhibit is mostly made of SUGAR! Except you can't eat it. Probably just as well - we all know what happened in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

My favourite part of the Yayoi Kusama exhibit was the "Obliteration Room" - a room which started out completely white - (click here to see it in the beginning) - and as kids were given 1000's of stickers - it slowly turned into this:

There's a spot over here, and a spot over there....

Today I'm trying to work at finishing these paintings for the "Viva La Frida" show - which is only a bit more than a week away! I say 'trying' because with Miss 3 here there's always something calling me away. Here's a little sneak peek of the painting I'm working on though:

Happy Leap Day everyone!

Happy Friday!

Had a great day yesterday catching up with some local artist friends of mine - the 2 Traceys - Tracey Fletcher King & Tracey Potter. While I was running around in Wynnum doing some things I also popped into The Collective Store and had a poke around. I love that shop! (I'll soon be stocking prints there!)  I managed to come out with the most delicious smelling Vanilla Chai candle by Floating Lotus. My Mum also picked up a few Tracey Fletcher King cards - which are beautiful!

On Tuesday I was excited to see that I have reached 700 followers on my Facebook page! So I had a print giveaway - congratulations to the lucky winners!

Painting wise - I've been busy working away on my paintings for the "Viva La Frida" exhibition, along with the getting print orders ready. I've also had to stop a few times a day to set Miss 3 up with her painting activities! hehe.

But for's back to the canvas.

Valentines + Monthly Painters Challenge

Happy Valentine's Day for yesterday! I got spoilt - a nice dinner out, a long stemmed rose and how cute are these personalised chocolates!?

They read: "Jaz be my Valentine xo all my love Wade"

Today is the reveal day for the "Monthly Painters Challenge". January's secret topic was "Micro/Macro". My mind drifted back to grade 9 science and looking at different cells under a microscope. One of my favourites was when we dyed the onion cells so we could see the nucleus. All I really liked was that we dyed them a cool pink/purple colour - that was the part I loved! I hated Science.

To be honest - I left it to the last minute this month. I've been focussing on my paintings for "Viva La Frida". But I sketched out some onion cells in my visual diary using acrylic paint, ink pen and watercolour pencils...
Then I scanned it in and played around with some effects in photoshop and ended up with a digital print:

"Onion Mosaic"

If anyone is interested - I'm selling the "Onion Mosaic" prints (8x10")for the special price of $10 each. Just email me at if you would like one.

So there it is - January's Monthly Painters Challenge done and dusted! Now...back to painting...

Monday the 13th

First of all - Happy Birthday to my Grandad who would've been 84 today. He passed away 7 years ago on Valentine's Day - the day after his birthday, so tomorrow is a little bitter-sweet in that respect.

Today I've been running around going to the post office, library and getting some important shopping done. I must say - I was pretty focused on finding some new healthy meal options.
I first heard about Jess Ainscough (the Wellness Warrior), while I was living on the Sunshine Coast, and was recently spurred on to read her blog via my friend Susana Frioni (who now does yoga classes on the Sunny Coast! Which I have been told are awesome by the way...). Anyway - Jess is all about organic eating and promoting a healthy lifestyle and she must be rubbing off on me because today I bought some Coconut Oil (organic, virgin, cold pressed, unrefined, unbleached, un-deodorised, and not hydrogenated!!!), Organic Quinoa (pronounced "Keen-Wah"), and even KALE! Yes - this girl actually makes me want to drink juice made from a vegetable that's part of the cabbage family! Wowza. We'll see how that goes...

In other exciting news - I'm going to be part of a group exhibition in March! It's called "Viva La Frida" and is inspired by one of my favourite artists - Frida Kahlo (you know - the one with the monobrow?). It's from March 9th to 18th 2012, at the Circle Gallery in West End (next to Art Shed).

Tonight I've really got to get to work on my piece for this month's "Monthly Painters Challenge". But first, I've got a mountain of dishes to do, and dinner to make, and a whingey Miss 3 - Oh - and did I mention it's Witching Hour?

"Lovey Dovey"

Hello February!

Last night I finished off a new painting that has a Valentines-ey feel to it. It's called "Lovey Dovey" and it features a pretty big eyed girl (Dovey) with a big white bow in her hair. She's surrounded by hearts and her favourite roses.

"Lovey Dovey"

The original is up on eBay for $69 (or $65 for Facebook Fans). There are also prints available!

It's another hot day here in Brisbane today! I've got the fan on and luckily I live pretty close to the bay so we get a nice bay breeze. Today I'll be working on some print orders and then painting for a group exhibition coming up in March - exciting!!
