Butterfly Fairy + Cupcakes!

I just finished up a new mini painting - "Crimson Butterfly Fairy" - which I've popped up on eBay for $30. The mini paintings are a great way to own some original art without the huge price tag.

Yesterday Miss 3 and I attempted to make some rainbow cupcakes. Anything this colourful has to be fun!

Mixing the individual bowls of cupcake batter into different colours.

Layering the coloured cupcake batter.

Unfortunately I didn't have the right size patty papers for this tray - so I thought that I could just grease it with butter, but they still stuck! Oops.

We still ate them anyway! :)

While we're on the subject of cupcakes...I've got a little giveaway for you. You can win this teeny (10cm x 10cm) cute original painting of mine!

Moths & Bats & Fairies - oh my!

Despite plans to relax and do nothing, we ended up having a busy weekend, filled with lots of little catch-ups and things which has been followed by a busy couple of days running errands, dentist appointments, being a Mummy, etc. So tonight I finally have a moment to follow up on some art stuff that has been happening!

Friday afternoon I finished off a new painting called "Io Moth Fairy". I started painting the fairy in, and I wanted to add in some moths with interesting patterns, and I thought these 'Io' moths were really cool because they have an 'eye' on their wings to trick predators into thinking they are watching them! Pretty clever. It was fun painting their colourful wings, and I'll definitely be adding some more moths to my paintings in the future. I must admit though - big (alive) moths freak me out. Why does a moth freak me out when a butterfly doesn't? Well - it's the 'flittyness' of them. They're unpredictable. They flit and flutter and dive at you when you're least expecting it. I still think they're amazing to look at up close (though preferably behind glass or dead).

It turns out "Io" moths are nocturnal - and co-incidentally today I finished off a bigger (30cm x 40cm) painting I've been working on over the last week - called "Nocturnal Moon". This one features a bat winged girl, with big purple eyes and flowers in her hair...

The original painting has already sold! But never fear, there are still "Nocturnal Moon" prints available here.

My little studio under the stairs is starting to get very a tiny bit messy - so I'm auctioning off some paintings over the next week or so. See the auctions here!

I should be going to bed, but there's still so much to do. How is it 10pm already?

"Miss Muffet" Returns!

Been running around doing errands all morning. Have only just had the chance to sit down with my 1st cup of tea at 11:30am! Oh well, at least we have food in the house now. :)

Yesterday I re-listed my "Miss Muffet" original painting. It sold a couple of months ago, but the buyer hasn't paid and hasn't answered any of my emails, so now you have a second chance at owning her!

Today I've got a couple of paintings in the works...but first, I've got to get some print orders ready to post. xo

"Seahorse Princess"

Today was the reveal day for April's "Monthly Painters Challenge". Between April 15th and May 15th we had to paint something in the theme of "Opposite Colours" (the topic is top secret until the reveal - only the artists know what the topic is each month).

I started sketching out a mermaid piece, and decided to add in a couple of seahorses - which continued to breed on my canvas into 5 seahorses! I just love those weird little sea creatures. It was as if the seahorses just "swarmed" in around her! I wasn't sure what colours to go with at first, but with the obvious choice of blue for the ocean background, I decided to give the mermaid and seahorses a vibrant orange colour. It just seemed fitting that with all of her adoring seahorse friends, she be crowned the "Seahorse Princess".

The original painting is up on eBay for $165 (or $160 for Facebook fans - just write 'Sold' under the photo of this painting in my "Available Original Paintings" album).

If the original is out of your price range, there's always prints available:

Now I'm off to give Miss 3 a bath...and make dinner. :)

Mother's Day 2012

Yesterday was Mother's Day here in Australia and it was such a nice day all round! I've always wanted to try Sizzler for breakfast, and we thought there was no better day to do it than Mother's Day so that's just what we did - and it was great. Gotta love a buffet breakfast! That was followed by a walk around the markets, and a Sunday afternoon at home.

I got spoilt by Miss 3! A handmade card, and a big heart made out of plaster with her hand print on it - so cute. Along with some new shimmery pink ugg boots and a new book (yes - it was "fifty shades of grey" - and I hope it's all it's cracked up to be!).

Uggs - they kinda look like astronaut boots!

Today was spent getting print orders organised and catching up on emails etc. Tonight I'm hoping to catch up on some painting.

My "Balloon Girl" original painting auction also ends tonight! Check it out here.

I hope you all had an equally relaxing weekend! :)

Labour Day 2012

Happy Labour Day Queenslanders! Today we celebrate the regulation of shorter work days and better working conditions. I'm happy because I get to have Hubby at home today! :)

Speaking of work - Friday night I listed a new original painting up for auction (starting at just $15 - with FREE postage!). I was in the mood to create a cute vintagey girl illustration, and she looked happy holding 3 round balloons. I think she's on her way to a birthday party somewhere.

Work in progress.

I added in the hearts and then decided they needed to be quilted and frilly!

There's lots of pastel colours in this one...

The last 2 days have been spent visiting family in Warwick. We had a great time visiting my Grandparents and seeing Aunties, Uncles and Cousins!

Miss 3 loved playing with her cousins!

Today I'm using the day to catch up on some much needed housework, getting print orders ready, and hopefully some painting this afternoon! Lots to do.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend! (Or long weekend!) :)

Bek's Wedding & 5 Things I'm Loving Right Now

Sorry I've been a neglectful blogger! I promise I'm back in full swing...

On Sunday I was a bridesmaid for a friend's wedding and the last couple of weeks have been filled with getting hair done, Hen's Night, Bridal Shower/Kitchen Tea, wedding dress rehearsals, spray tans...not to mention last minute shopping for a replacement Bridesmaid dress as mine never turned up! (That's a whole other saga...)

The wedding turned out beautifully though, and she was a perfect blushing Bride...

Congrats Bek and Chris!

The past few days I've been finishing off this month's Monthly Painters Challenge painting (sorry, can't post photos yet, it's top secret until the 15th May!)

So for now I'm going to share 5 things I'm loving lately...
1. Peter Alexander's Mother's Day catalogue - oh, so sweeeeet! Loving the cookie print pants!!

2. Warm Drinks. As the weather is cooling down, I'm loving tea, coffee and hot chocolate through the day...

3. Glitter nail polish! I feel like I'm 14 again.

4. Pinterest - a place where you can create pinboards - collections of photos and ideas from all over the web, and you can look at other people's boards as well! *Warning - it's addictive!*

5. Jax from Sons of Anarchy. Am I subconsciously relating Tara and Jax to Natalie and Taylor Hanson?

5. Feather Hair Extensions - I'm pretty sure this fad is going to be out of fashion as fast as it came in, but right now I just want some feathers in my hair!!

What are 5 things you're loving right now?
