"Fragile Beauty" and "Mermaid at Dusk"

I've been trying to make some room in this little art studio of mine, so I'm putting some original paintings up for auction starting at just $1!

"Fragile Beauty" is one of my favourites I've painted so far this year. I was tempted to keep her actually. The colours and tone suit my house and I just love the cute innocent expression on her face. Bidding has already begun so I guess I'll be kissing her goodbye sometime soon.

The other is "Mermaid at Dusk" - a painting in some of my favourite pinks, mauves and purples with tons of little details including a seahorse, a jellyfish, skellyfish, and a treasures chest.

 This one is called "Fragile Beauty" and she is the first one up for auction in 2016. 

 

 A big blue eyed girl, with plaits in her hair, a skull by her side and butterflies fluttering around her.

School holidays are over and the last few days I've been working on some line work drawings for a project.

 

It's actually been nice to work with ink and paper rather than the usual paint and canvas. Black and white as opposed to lots of colour. Mixing it up.

The house is finally starting to look a little more organized. There are still boxes everywhere, and we're currently working with a make-shift kitchen (and studio) but it's starting to feel a little bit more like home. 

I'm arranging my studio slowly, and in line with the New Moon on Tuesday, I put my original "Moon Phase Angel" painting up for auction, starting at $1! You can go to the auction by clicking HERE.

The weather is finally cooling down today. It's been the longest Summer here in Brisbane, Australia. I thought it was never going to end. It's nearing the end of April and we're still wearing t-shirts and shorts. I love the heat, but we're definitely ready for a cool change. :)

30!

Hubby and I are back from a quick whirlwind trip to Melbourne for my 30th birthday. We had the BEST time - eating like royalty, relaxing in our beautiful hotel (The Blackman) and exploring the streets of Melbourne and St Kilda.

Some highlights were:

• Birthday dinner at Movida, Hosier Lane.

•   Riding a bike along St. Kilda Pier, where my grandparents met over 60 years ago.

 

• Seeing "The Block"! We planned on having a sneaky look out the front and totally fluked it that it was "Open for Inspection" day! We couldn't believe our luck. We got to meet the lovely Shelley Craft, and The Block contestants, and walk through all of the apartments!

• Seeing Rama Nicholas' one woman musical comedy "After Ever After" at the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

It was great to get home and see my babies! I miss them so much when I'm away from them. At the same time it was a much needed break. I'm feeling recharged, refreshed and re-inspired!

So far this week I've been busy getting orders up to date, and I finished the mermaid painting I was working on at Comic Con. Some of you may have already seen her! I've popped her up for auction on eBay HERE:

Well, it's back to reality for me now. There's nothing like school holidays to bring you back to reality after a short break away! :) Wish me luck.

So excite.

I'm excited to announce that I will have a table in Artist's Alley at Comic Con Brisbane this year! I've never been to Comic Con before, so I'm really excited (and a bit nervous!).

I have to say this is the first mermaid I've painted with blue lipstick...but I think it really suits her!

 I've got some commissioned sketches to work on tonight, and I'm hoping to get some other smaller fairy paintings done this week...

"Jelly Rose"

My first ever spray tan was with a lady named "Gelly Rose". I was so nervous. I went into her beautiful pink and white striped salon, and she was super lovely and friendly and made me feel so at ease! My friend and I didn't know her real name (sorry Sandra!), so every time we wanted to go to that salon we would just say "Wanna see Gelly?". That was probably...10? years ago. Wow. These days, spray tans are pretty much a thing of the past for me. But the name must have stuck, because this afternoon when I was thinking about what to name my new mermaid painting "Jelly Rose" sprung to mind!

I had a picture of a cute blonde mermaid in my head. Most mermaids have long, flowing hair, but I thought there needed to be a mermaid with a cute styled cut! Surely there are hairdressers for mermaids right? This one has a little blonde bob with a fringe! I painted in one jellyfish, and it multiplied! lol. Before I knew it there were three jellies in the painting, and I then I added in a couple of peony roses for a feminine touch. Overall this painting has a calming effect to it.
